Juicy Slovenian Ham —A boiled 'smoked' ham recipe that is delicious and melts in your mouth. This Slovenian recipe is perfect for any special occasion like Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas or anytime you are feeding a crowd because it's easy, doesn’t require a lot of your attention, and it is a HUGE every time!
DIRECTIONS: Place smoked ham (pork shoulder size of your choice) into a pot. Pour enough cold water to completely cover the ham. It is important that the ham is heated slowly. We heat the water to a very low and slow rolling boil. (the ideal temperature is 77, and the maximum is 87 degrees). We cook it for 60 minutes for each kilogram; therefore a 2-kilogram piece 100-120 minutes.
Once done cooking. Cool down the meat in the pot of water. Remove from the water and place onto a baking dish. Rub butter all over the ham *optional: sprinkle on some vegeta all over the ham. Bake in a 375 degree oven for approx. 20 minutes. Reserve the water that the ham was boiled in to use as a soup base for Ričet Soup (Smoked Ham and barley soup Recipe Here - Recipe)
***Cooked ham stays fresh for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
