Poppy Seed Cake | Makova torta s Čokolado


Poppy seed cake (Makova Torta) is a cherished dessert in Slovenia, deeply rooted in our culinary traditions. INGREDIENTS
2 large eggs
250g all purpose flour
200ml oil
400ml milk
250g sugar
400g ground poppy seeds
10g baking powder
1 Tbsp vanilla extract or 1 package of Dr Oetker Vanilla
5 Tbsp's apricot jam

Chocolate Glaze Topping:
200g chocolate
5 Tbsp's oil

  1. Beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. 
  2. Add in the oil, milk and ground poppy seeds. Mix.
  3. Next add in 1 Tbsp vanilla extract, flour and baking powder. Mix again until well combined and smooth. 
  4. Butter and flour a 9x13" baking pan. Pour the batter into prepared pan.
  5. Bake in a 350 F degree oven for about 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. 
  6. While the cake is still warm, spread the apricot jam over the top of the cake.
  7. Make the chocolate glaze: Add 200g of chocolate and 5 Tbsp's oil to a small pot a melt over low heat. stirring continuously until melted.
  8. Pour the chocolate over the cake and spread to cover the cake. Allow to cool for about 2 hours. Dober tek!
