These Domači Prijatelji — Hazelnut Biscotti with chocolate chips and a bright kiss of lemon — have become a little tradition of their own in our house. My boys ask for them more often than I can bake them, and I love how their crunchy edges and soft centers remind us that simple things, made with love, are often the most cherished.
This is one of those recipes that feels both old and new at the same time… a classic biscotti, but with the comforting warmth of roasted hazelnuts, the sweetness of chocolate, and just a whisper of lemon to lift everything up. Perfect with morning coffee, afternoon tea, or those quiet moments when you simply need something homemade.
DOMAČI PRIJATELJI • HAZELNUT BISCOTTI WITH CHOCOLATE CHIPS & LEMON
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup butter, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts
- 1 tsp lemon zest
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, beat the eggs until light and fluffy — about 2 minutes. Slowly add the sugar and whisk for another minute.
- Add the butter, lemon zest, and vanilla. Whisk for another minute, then gently fold in the flour mixture until a soft dough forms.
- With a spatula, mix in the chocolate chips and chopped hazelnuts.
- Divide the dough in half. With floured hands, shape each piece into a slightly flattened log, about 12 inches long and 2 inches wide.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, then cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
- Transfer to a cutting board and slice diagonally into ¾-inch pieces.
- Lay each slice flat on the baking sheet and bake for 4–5 minutes per side, depending on how crisp you like them.
- Cool completely on a wire rack. Store in a sealed container at room temperature for several weeks, or freeze for up to 6 months.
